Education & Outreach

Certified staff and volunteers, including those infected with HIV, provide HIV awareness and prevention education in the greater New Haven area at venues such as churches, schools, civic organizations, business, soup kitchens, and group homes.

Targeted prevention outreach focuses on adults and youths who may place themselves at risk for HIV infection.

The S.I.S.T.A. project is a peer-led program to prevent HIV infection among African American young adult women.  Food, transportation and certificates will be provided!  To get involved in the S.I.S.T.A. Project contact the Education and Outreach Department at 203-624-0947 ext. 232

Street Smart

Street Smart is a multi session skill building intervention designed for youth to help reduce STD infections including HIVAIDS.  The programs goal is reduce the number of unprotected sex acts, number of sex partners and substance abuse. The sessions are based on social learning theory that utilizes the relationship between feelings, attitudes and thoughts to assist in behavioral change.  The sessions are fun, interactive, informative an relay engage the youth in understanding risk reduction behaviors.

T.A.G

TAG is a multi – session prevention workshop that targets urban minority high-risk youth. TAG group sessions include videos, discussion groups and lectures that help youth identify behaviors, practices and situations that can lead to risky behaviors.  Substance abuse, Self esteem and Self awareness, STD’s including HIV/AIDS are session topics.

T.A.P.S

TAPS, Teaching AIDS Prevention Services is an AIDS Project New Havens Summer Institute for New Haven youth.  Youth who are recruited, hired and receive intensive training to work in the New Haven community as Peer Educators; presenting HIVAIDS basic facts and information to their peers.  TAPS members work with the Outreach and Education team to us panel discussions, skits and group discussion to convey risk reduction information.  TAPS members are actively engaged in giving back to their community by addressing an important issue while enhancing their skills, knowledge and understanding of working for a Community Based Organization
